New TLD Customer Spotlight: .buzz Registry Takes new TLD and Marketing to New Heights
Bill Doshier, president of dotStrategy, Co., the operator of .buzz, discusses the latest happenings in the .buzz hive. This quick Q&A covers all things from his vision for the space to the innovative marketing strategies he’s using to promote it ̶ including a first-of-its-kind TLD education program for Gen Z university students.
What is .buzz?
.buzz is THE location where internet users can go to find out what’s happening right now. The domain can be used to host a range of real-time content – from subject-specific current events, blogs, new product developments, community updates and more.
Is the .buzz brand limited to domain names?
When a registrant purchases a .buzz domain name, their relationship with .buzz doesn’t end there. We’re working to develop a .buzz community for registrants – one that will feature products and services to promote it. Registering a .buzz name is just the start to a bigger journey.
Is .buzz a safe space?
.buzz is dedicated to being a family –friendly domain name space, where internet users can find fresh, clean content that they can trust. To protect the .buzz namespace, we’ve selected Neustar to provide Threat Mitigation Services to detect certain forms of malicious activity within .buzz, and mitigate phishing, malware distribution, exploit hosting and botnets. Leveraging these services provides us the comfort of knowing we’re doing everything possible to provide top level .buzz registry products and services.
How are you spreading the word about .buzz?
.buzz continually looks for innovative ways to spread the buzz to a variety of audiences.
We are active members of the domain name community, participating as speakers in a variety of events including the 1st NamesCon conference in Las Vegas and the 3rd Digital Marketing gTLD Strategy Congress in New York, among others. We are also dedicated to representing the nTLD community within ICANN. Last November, we created a resource for ICANN 48 Buenos Aires event attendees, icannbuzz.com, a website that provided daily content on the event, as well as information on third-party activities surrounding the event. This website demonstrated the capabilities of what a .buzz website can be – a source for constant pulling and pushing out of real-time content for a community. As a result, icannbuzz.com was a great success, driving a significant amount of traffic and community engagement.
Another interesting way we’re spreading the word about .buzz is through a program with the University of Central Arkansas. In leading a class on business start-ups and new TLDs, we’re educating the Gen Z audience on the world of opportunities that new TLDs, like .buzz, can offer them – whether it’s starting a business, building a blog, or developing an app. We’re even giving them the tools to become a reseller or affiliate of .buzz with create.buzz, backed by Enom’s platform. Gen Z, an important target audience of .buzz, is a group that will ensure long-term success for the new TLD industry as a whole.
How can registrars join the .buzz excitement?
We look forward to continuing to work with registrars and resellers to find innovative ways to promote the .buzz space. We recently teamed up with name.com and four additional TLDs to sponsor the New Zealand bobsled team, and are working with a number of other registrars on additional programs.
